I was asking my friends about a good hair-stylist in Scarborough area but never got one. Then I thought of searching it online...and had gone through a number of reviews and finally, I came across prettytoronto.com and on that Salon on Brimley. Whatever written about April, the hair stylist and the director of the salon is absolutely true. She knows her job, loves her job, listens to her clients and above all a very nice person at heart. I am glad that finally I got a good hair stylist :)

After researching the digital perm procedure, I arranged an appointment at Salon on Brimley for a consultation. April was so knowledgeable and honest about the procedure. She took the time to explain the process and showed me pictures of work on other clients. She has a digital perm herself (she did it herself!) and both the pictures and her own hair were so beautiful. With her knowledge, it helped me decide on getting the procedure done. I am so pleased with the results - by far, the best hair salon experience I've ever had. I will definitely go back to April at Salon on Brimley! Thank you April!!

After all the bad experiences, I can finally find a trustworthy hairdresser. April listens to her clients and cut professionally with attention to detail. I went to salon on Brimley 2 months ago for the first time for a simple hair cut. She gave me the best layers and I got so many compliments. This time, I went back for a digital perm. To a lot of people, this is a very new type of perm, so, i was a bit nervous. Seeing April has the same perm done on her hair really give me a big relief. Instead of seeing pictures, I was able to see a live example. She told me that it lasts past a year on her hair and the perm still look fresh to me. Now that I got it done, I can't tell everybody how much i like the way it looks. My hair just look so natural and the soft curls do look like those Asian models. I have done a ordinary perm many years ago, this experience was really different, whether the products, the techniques or the results. My hair is now very soft, healthy and frizz free. I am looking forward for the next treatment, but it will probably be a year later. I will see you again shortly for my color. Thanks.

I washed my hair for the first time today after getting the Japanese permanent straightening done. I let it air dry and it dried as straight and shiny as ever. I'm very satisfied with the job April did on my hair. I'll be coming back in a couple months for a hair cut :)

I just had the Japanese straightening done for the firs time with April. I was very skeptical at first as her charge for my hair was $425. However this included a bit of cutting my hair and a moisturizing treatment after. My hair took about 4 hours. It's been 5 days and I just washed my hair for the first time after the treatment. I blow dried it Quickly and found that is was poofy and not completely straight. However this was to be expected. as April told me this is what my hair type would do. I took her advice and slept on it. In the morning my hair was much straighter and less poofy. Just as she said it would be. I only had to spend about 5 mins quickly styling it. She also said the next time I do the process my hair will be even straighter. It is definitely worth the money and April is very very knowledgable. I trust her completely with my hair because exactly what she explained to me is exactly what happened. No surprises. This process has cut down my styling time from 45minutes - 1 hour to now only sleeping on just washed hair to waking up to it how I want it. It's helped a lot. I will definitely be back when it's time to retouch. Thanks April!

have been going to Salon on Brimley for Japanese Straightening for over 3 years now . The stylist who does my hair is April. I have to say that it is an absolute pleasure to have her work on my hair. She is highly professional, friendly and always does a fantastic job, each and every time. My hair generally takes about 4 hrs to complete and I regularly go for a touch up every 4-5 mths. My hair is very curly/frizzy and unmanageable and since doing the Japanese Straightening, my hair has been so much easier to manage and style and feels so soft and silky. The overall condition of my hair has also improved tremendously.

From the moment you come through the door, you are greeted with a friendly smile and made to feel right at home. Not only is April a fantastic Stylist, she is also a very nice and honest person. She will always give you an honest recommendation regarding your hair and tailor the products that she uses to your individual hair type. This is one of the must-go-to salon's in Toronto!! I am very peculiar with my hair, and for 13 years living within the GTA I've been trying to find the perfect hairstylist that can meet my needs, and I think I've found it here! April is a very caring hairstylist. I went to her salon four days ago for the Japanese hair straightening. She definitely has one of the best customer service. While serving her clients she has her undivided attention. She is also very very experienced, informative, and knowledgeable about hair products and of course hair in general. April guides you through the step by step procedure on what she will be doing to your hair and is very honest about everything. You will find many salons especially within the Toronto area in which hairstylists offer the same service although, through experience it probably won't result to the same out come as if you went to Salon on Brimley. Other places may be cheap in price for this type of service but remember you will always get what you pay for. So yes, it may be pricey for some, but I promise you, you will not regret a thing. If you're a person about quality over quantity this is totally the place for you!

WOW. I just had the japanese straight perm done yesterday, and I am so pleased with the results. April was so amazing and like all the other comments say, she was very knowledgable and she was very upfront about the price. I was scared that my hair was going to be burnt like other times at other salons, but April promised me that she wouldn't burn my hair and she told me exactly what the results for my hair was going to be. It came out smooth, soft, and in almost perfect condition. I thought the salon was very pretty and April does such a great job making the clients feel comfortable and relaxed. She knows what she's doing and she always makes sure that she does the job right the first time. If you had to choose a salon to go to, Salon on Brimley should DEFINITELY be your first option. I'll be coming back here when i need touch-ups, as I know April is someone I can trust. After years of trying different salons for a straight perm and having not so great results, coming here was the best choice i've made so far. April is SUCH A WONDERFUL person and not only is the japenese perm the reason why i'll come back, but because she is such a great hair stylist and person. Thank you so much April! I had the JHS done last friday, I am very skeptic when it comes to putting chemicals on my hair, April did my hair and shes very informative, im told what and what not to expect, and i appreciate that she really didnt burned my hair, and she didnt used strong chemicals as this is my first time... after JHS my hair looks shiny and has volume, not stiff or looked chemically process hair. mind you, my hair is very wavy and frizzy before so im very happy how it turned out and im hoping it will last at least 6 months, well see...all in all im happy. and i really recommend this salon. the first time i washed my hair i let it air dry and see the difference if it worked or not.. my hair look straight and has volume, its not flat straight which im ok how it looked coz this is my first time to have it done but im hoping on the second time it will be much much better, no little wavy and stuff.. i paid $580 all in all coz i had hair treatment as well as hair trimming, now im looking forward to do it again 6-8 months from now. tnx april and see yah soon.. :)

I have very thin hair and always want to add some volume on my hair. I came across digital perm and i started to do some research. Salon on Brimley was the only salon i can find then i went to them. i didn't have high hope as my hair is very difficult to curl even with a curling iron. April told me she had seen people 's hair like mine but it worked, i still thought i will be okay just to see a bit of waves. But now, I am looking at my curls everyday and is like a dream come true. This is the very first time I ever perm my hair and it turned out GREATTTT! I want to tell everyone to try this now, you will be excited like me. Nov.20/2010: After months of contemplation, I finally decided to get the Japanese straightening treatment today. April was incredibly professional and friendly. She explained to me the process as she worked on my hair and was completely honest with me from the moment I walked in. She answered all my questions and was very patient. She made me feel very comfortable and welcomed the entire time. 5 hours later and my hair feel the softest it's ever felt in years. I like many people was scared that the treatment would ruin my hair or leave it dry and brittle. However, this treatment worked like a dream. When i think about my experience at Salon on Brimely, only one word comes to mind...AMAZING!!!!! I had my hair cut professionally for the first time in my life by the most down to earth, friendly and extremely professional stylist, April. She made me feel extremely comfortable and relaxed during my entire session with her. Being a muslim women i know how hard it is to find a salon that can cater to our needs, eg. having a private room. AMAAAAAAAZINGGGG! I don't know what to say! I got Japanese hair straightening just yesterday and I just can believe my hair feels so straight, silky and soft. My natural hair is extremely thick, coarse, frizzy with little curls, its so annoying! With my natural straight hair, it takes me 2 hours to straighten it but believe me, it doesn not come out nice. It always comes out thick, and still remains coarse. My background is Afghanistan but people always think I'm either Egyptian or half African because of my hair. I've always hated my hair ever since I was little and was often jealous of my sisters' hairs because theirs were either silky curly, or silky straight. I thought of getting Japanese straightening because it will make my hair more manageable. And the price was affordable! I just love my new hair now, it looks so alike to an Asians girls' hair, something I wouldn't imagine my hair to be. I reccomend anybody that needs Japanese straightening to go to this salon because 1) April the hairdresser, is experienced and has been doing JHS for a very long time 2) it's affordable, price is WORTH IT! 3) I promise you, you'll LOVE your hair even more because you'll be spending hours and hours in front of the mirror just staring at yourself in awe. Recommend this salon to anybody that has unmanageable, coarse, frizzy, thick, curly hair. Guaranteed, you'll love your hair just how I'm loving it right now. I just had my hair straightened last week, what a busy salon. When I was having my hair done, there were 4 other people having theirs done too, everybody left with a big smile including myself. I am Canadian but the rest of people are Philipinos, Indian and one black girl. I was so amazed how this treatment works for so different types of hair, anyway, I still couldn't believe that I had it done and I can't help touching my hair often, what a good feeling!

My sister and I went to visit Salon on Brimley today for the first time. We are both very pleased with our hair cuts.

April, the owner of the salon cut both our hair. When we arrived, she greeted us with a smile and she made us feel very comfortable. We did not wait very long because we had an appointment with her. I am quite surprised because I have been in other salons and even if you received an appoinment time, most likely, there is still a wait time. Not with this salon, though. Fast, efficient service.

April is a great listener and took all our thoughts and compiled it together and the final product is...voila...amazing hair.

I would recommend this salon to all my friends due to great service and great hair cut we received.

I would go here for all of my hair needs.

I went and had my hair straightened by April a few weeks back. I was very nervous about getting my thick, frizzy hair done. I don't know why I waited so long! April did a great job! It now takes me 10 mins to dry my hair, as opposed to the 1 hour it would take before (Blow dry then flat iron!). I can even get up and wash my hair in the morning before leaving for work, and not have to worry about how long it will take to get my hair looking presentable. The cost is high, but not has high as some other salons. I had made an appointment at another salon at Leslie and hiway 7 (they were about $200) but was nervous at the level of communication that I would have with that salon. I am glad I went to see April instead, the cost is so worth it. Thanks April!

I just tried the new Japanese Digital Perm. I love it, I really do. My hair now have very natural big soft curls that do not require the use of mousse! My hair even shinier and softer than before too. Very different but great experience of having this perm. They got all the high tech machines on my hair, I just love it. Hope it will last long.

I went to have the Japanese hair straigtening but chickend out... I ended up getting my hair cut by Andy. He was great! I received the best haircut ever. He spent so long perfecting my cut. It turned out that my ugly hair might have been due to lack of a good cut. And... the price is great! Most salons charge $28 for just a wash and blowdry!! I am going to Salon on Brimley from now on.

I am very happy with the results, and am already considering a second treatment (although it is still months away). I highly recommend April's services. I got my hair straightened a few days ago, and I'm very pleased with the results. Before going to the salon I had read all of the posts on this site, so I knew what to expect. April is great, and like everybody else has said, she's up front about costs and the results that you will get.

I can now wash my hair, leave the house with it still wet, and not have to worry that it will dry frizzy, wavy and out of control. I paid extra because my hair is very long and thick, but it was the best $550 I've ever spent!! I highly recommend April!

April is amazing and the best at what she does. I've always been afraid to get my hair straightened because I've heard so many stories about it getting damaged from the chemicals they use at hair salons. I figured I'd give it a try anyways and made an appointment. April was very upfront about how much it would cost, how long it would take (6 hrs!) and exactly what the results would be. My hair actually looked and felt healthier AFTER the straightening! I went from having frizzy, curly hair to smooth straight hair. My hair still has a tiny bit of a wave in it which makes it look really nice and not limp at all. I got my hair done 4 months ago and it's still straight and doesn't get frizzy even if it's humid out. April's also a lot of fun to talk to and makes the time go by quickly. They're also very good at cutting hair to give you a style that suits your look. I would higly recommend her to anyone thinking about getting their hair straightened!!

I've been searching on the net for hair straightening salons. The reviews here sound great. Hands down, I get the prize for the worst, ugliest hair in Toronto. It is extremely coarse and frizzy, with a very tight coled curl. When air dried or done with a hair dryer - it extends out into a huge ball, think Bride of Frankenstein. Curling irons help to a degree, but then it frizzes up with even the slightest humidity. I've done BKT in the past with another stylist, but it washes out in just a few weeks given my hair is sooooo curly,coarse and frizzy. My question to all of you: with hair like this, how many months would the thermal straightening last? I'm envisioning this line of extreme frizz at the roots, followed by stick straight hair hanging down after a month or two.

I have had long black hair forever and decided i really wanted a change and opted for an asymmetrical bob cut. I was REALLY nervous but April and her assistant Andy (who was the one that cut my hair) put me right at ease. Andy did such an amazing job and i'm loving my cut more and more each day. My daughter has very long, thick and unruly hair.  For the past 2 years we have struggled daily with her hair.  My daughter could only wear her hair in a ponytail.  When we let her dry naturally my poor daughter ended up looking like a witch.  After much thought and research I found April and made an appointment.  I was nervous about letting strangers do this to her hair  but then when I saw all the before and after pictures, I knew I was in the right salon.  When April first met my daughter, her first words were, "we have to thin the hair" and so started our 6 hour, yes 6 hour long process to straight hair.

My daughter's hair is gorgeous.  I can't believe the transformation.  My daughter Julia is ecstatic with her new hair.  April is a hard worker.  She is a perfectionist.  April clearly explained what she was doing to my daughters hair and why.  She explained what I should expect after we finally wash her hair.   It was not a cheap procedure......my daughter's treatment including protein treatment cost $550 but well worth the money.

I also had my hair coloured and hi lited and am very happy.  April supervised every moment of my color while tending to my daughter.

I will be returning for my next color and cut.

I can't believe I am one of the many writing the reviews when I was a reader a year ago.  When I first found this site and read the reviews, I told myself "Too good to be true" but I chose this salon anyway since there isn't any reviews i Can find with other salons.

Funny enough, I totally agreed with other viewers now.  They are really great people, not only they did really good jobs....when I said "good jobs", it shows that I had experience with them more than once.  The first time I met with April, my hair was in awful condition (that's why I need to do something), she told me I can't get good results due to the pooooor condition but I can expect much better result for the 2nd visit.  I was hesitated when she told me that but I chose to get it done anyway since my hair really giving me too much trouble.  At the end, the result wasn't that good but at least was much better than before, so I was still happy.  (Most important, the result was expected since April described to me very clearly as to what to expect at the end, it turned out 100% what she said)  Because of that, I trusted her and went back again for the second time within a month.  With worries of having hair falling out, April gave me again very clear direction.  Surprising, I thought it will be just a bit better, but it was million times better.  Not only my hair was not damaged, but was much shinier and softer, though it's a BIG question mark to me!  I still don't understand what had happened and why that happened - 2 JHS within a month and my hair is getting healthier????  Hard to believe!  I just want to share this with people who is wondering like myself.  Thumbs up to everybody at Salon on Brimley!

I have been searching on line and found this salon.  I have very thin but curly/ frizzy hair.  I learned about the Japanese treatment a few years back but I am afraid that it will give me a very flat look.  When I went to them, I told them I need to have a lift on my crown and my hair just came out 100% what I wanted.  My hair look fuller because of the cut that April gave me, I now look like I have more hair than I actually have.  I personally think the price is reasonable as she is really professional and explained every single steps clearly to me.  I found another guy doing this in Thornhill but he charges twice as high as this salon.  April gave me a protein treatment at the end of straightening process and my hair is still very nice and soft but shinier......this is really amazing.  I hope it will last longer.  Oh, I forgot to mention.... she handled my hair all on her own and I am very pleased since she is very kind.  I just got enough money to pay for the service but I was left with no money to tip her, then she worried if I have money to go home and she gave me $20 back!  What a girl!!!  I ended up using Interac to tip her!!!  I was glad that I chose them.

My hair is quite hard to cut since it is quite wavy and hard to manage.  I've been to quite a number of salons but didn't find any that I like so I did some researching and came across Salon on Brimley. It had so many great reviews.  I've just had my hair cut by Andy and he was the most careful and very experienced hair stylist I've met.  When cutting my hair he took into consideration all the things I said about how I want my hair to be cut and gave me helpful suggestions for managing my hair.  It was a very friendly and nice experience as well.  Highly recommended!!

I went to the salon about a week and a half ago to get a cut, wash and style. Having a Sputh Asian background it is difficult to have caucasian stylists work on my hair because they do not understand how to properly cut or color it. Initially I booked my appoinment with April but I ended up having my hair cut by Andy , another stylist. Let me tell you, I was amazied at how precise he was in his technique and how amazing the transformation was. I was hesitatnt at first because of how light my hair felt, and feared he had thinned it too much. In the end I had AMAZING volume that everyoneeee has noticed, lots of layers and still long length and BEAUTIFUL bangs that frame my face wonderfully. It is soo easy for me to style my hair at home because of the wonderful cut. April also talked me into getting the protein treatment with aloe serum which has helped to moisturize my hair and make it incredibly shiny and healthy looking. This salon is amazing, and houses some of the most talented stylists I have ever experienced. I have been to salons in malls, in Rosedale, st Claire/Yonge and Yorkville, and they are all about high prices for very mediocre service. These stylists are amazing at what they do, and DO NOT let the language barrier fool you, they know exatcly what to do and have delievered superior service for both myself and my sister!

I went to Salon on Brimely last week for a cut wash and style. I was a bit hesitant because of the many signs that were displayed in asian languages. Upon arriving I was warmly greeted by April, she washed my hair and then instructed her other stylist (Allen) on how to cut my hair...I was a bit worried at this point because he did not speak english and had to be told what to do by April. Let me tell you though, he is an AMAZING STYLIST!!! He gave me the BEST haircut I have EVER had!! He cut my bangs and layers PERFECTLY and exactly like the picture I had shown him in a magazine. He then blow dried my hair with little to no product and my hair was extremly shiny, all just $28!!!! This salon is the BEST!!!!!!

Just had the Japanese straightening done ( Nov 16), definately works, she treats all hair types and nationalities. Very friendly and knowledgable. My hair is thick and shoulder length, took about four hours to complete..  She is nice as i mentioned but not very upfront about fees, cost me $360.00. I was expecting about $250. Only accepts cash,no credit cards or debit, no receipt. If it stays as straight as it is today...months from now....well worth it.

I didn't spend that long, only around 3 hours.  I was very skepticle at the beginning but then I found that I should trust on her due to her extensive knowledge.  My hair was extremely damaged as I used relaxer before on my hair. I also use the flat iron a lot....:( .  I was very worried if my hair will fall out.  My hair is now still unhealthy, but way better than before and less frizz (at least when people look at it, they couldn't tell it's that bad).  She really did a great job.  I will definitely go back again.  She will be my designated hairdresser from now on.

I went in today (october 15,2008) and i had the japaneese straitening done by her and she's not only an amazing stylist but also a fun person to spend 6 hours with. My hair was curly/frizy and i got this done and now my hairs shiny/straight! If you want a professional to do this treatment for you for a reasonable price then salon on brimley is it! Girls, tell me about it, I am very excited about my new hair, I am also very impressed by her professional manner and knowledge.  When I called for appointment, for some reason, sounds like they don't speak clear English and I was worried.  but when I went there, they speak perfect English!  I called many other salons before I chose this one, probably because the price is more reasonable and I have to be honest, a bit nervous at the beginning, not sure if that's the right choice.  But I can tell everyone here - go there, you won't be disappointed!  Good price, good place, good people!!!  Highly recommended!  Good hair cut too by the way :)

My japanese friend told me most japanese people don't have natural straight hair and it is actually wavy and coarse. So many japanese girls want to have this done to appear to have dead straight silky smooth hair. I had it done in that nice salon in scarborough recently and let me tell you that I have never been happier. My hair is kind of wavy and quite thick. When i blow dry my hair it takes forever and unless i use a straightening iron it still looks quite full. So i asked around and found out that the Japanese use a special product that straightens your hair without damaging it and leaves your hair dead straight without having to touch it with a hairdryer or straightner. When i come out of the shower my hair is already straight and it drys in the exact position. It's great!
I definately recommend it especially your hair gets all frizzy after wash. My hair hasn't been frizzy once, i don't even worry anymore after washing as my hair drys dead straight again. Hope this helps and entices you to get it done. Good Luck!!

I got my hair done at that salon about 2 months ago. My hair is silkier than before, straight and no fizz. Highly recommended. BTW, her name is April, very helpful girl.
